What is cross-linked polyethylene/XLPE?
Cross-linked polyethylene, also known as XLPE, is a form of insulation produced by heating and high pressure. One way to produce XLPE insulation is to irradiate the compound. Another method is to use peroxide to chemically crosslink the compound. The most important attribute of XLPE is its electrical properties. Cables with XLPE insulation can carry large currents and high voltages. A common application of XLPE is medium and high voltage applications. The physical and electrical properties of XLPE make it an ideal choice for use in industrial environments.
