3-core XLPE insulated power cable
XLPE insulated cable
XLPE stands for cross-linked polyethylene or vulcanized polyethylene. In short, XLPE power cable is a cable that is properly insulated by XLPE compound. XLPE power cables are sometimes called PEX cables or XLPE cables.
Since XLPE is cross-linked polyethylene, compared with PVC cables, XLPE power cables have higher rated current and longer service life. Under short-circuit conditions, XLPE power cables can withstand temperatures up to 250ºC, while PVC cables can withstand temperatures of 160ºC. XLPE power cables also have a higher overload capacity in emergency situations.

XLPE power cable insulation is made of XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) rated at 90 o C.
Conductor: flat round, compacted stranded aluminum wire or high-purity copper in accordance with IEC 60228 level 2.
Outer sheath: PVC or LSOH-low smoke and halogen free
Rated voltage: medium and low voltage
Executive standard: manufactured according to GB/T12706-2002 standard (same as IEC60502).
Armor: galvanized steel wire or steel tape.
Spatial characteristics of XLPE insulator
The long molecular chains of polyethylene are cross-linked with each other through a process similar to rubber vulcanization, thereby forming a three-dimensional network structure with strong bonds. Pure polyethylene is a thermoplastic material, that is, it softens and becomes plastic when heated, and hardens when cooled. Pure polyethylene will be converted to thermoset XLPE, that is, it will permanently solidify after heating. Through the cross-linking process, the polyethylene insulation layer of the cable has thermal stability, and the melting point is also greatly improved. Therefore, XLPE insulated cables have higher heat resistance and therefore better resistance to thermal deformation. Due to its excellent thermal performance, the current carrying capacity of XLPE cables is higher than that of traditional cables.
